General note:

The accession consists of bound ledger books created and/or maintained by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC).

The ledgers were used by Indian Affairs staff to record salary information for teachers employed at schools across Canada. Most of the information found in the ledgers pertains to the salaries of teachers employed at day schools, as well as a smaller number of residential schools.

Custodial history:

The ledgers were created and maintained by the Department of Indian Affairs, but were transferred to the care and control of Public Works and Government Services Canada. In 2015, the ledgers were transferred to Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
