These records relate to the 1976 Olympics held in Montreal, Quebec. The Olympic Games of 1976 was one of the largest public events held in Canadian history. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were responsible for upholding federal legislation, liaising with other federal, provincial, municipal and civil authorities, as well as fulfilling the obligations of federal security responsibilities. The RCMP appointed a Federal Security Coordinator to oversee the Force's involvement and to act as the federal liaison for the numerous security committees that developed to provide security for the Games. To carry out the new responsibilities of the RCMP a secretariat was created under C Division in Montreal, but was later transferred to Headquarters Division.
This accession contains training sessions, security lectures and presentations and dubs of some of the television coverage broadcast by the CBC and RC all recorded by the RCMP in preparation for the 1976 Olympics held in Montreal.

The records were created and maintained by Headquarters Division in Ottawa and by each of the divisions which were involved in the security of the Olympic Games. At the end of the respective retention periods, the files were sent to the RCMP Archives Management Section for collection and review.
