Sub-sub-series consists of microfilm census returns for the seventh census of Canada, primarily conducted 1 June 1931.

For the census of Canada, sub-sub-series consists of returns recorded on Forms 1A and 1B (for population). Sub-sub-series also consists of returns recorded on an additional population schedule specific for the census of the Northwest Territories, and, in some cases, of certain parts of the Yukon, the Eastern shore of Hudson Bay north of Great Whale River, and the Southern shore of Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay.

Source of title:

Title is based on the contents of the sub-sub-series.

Custodial history:

The original paper census returns were microfilmed in the 1950s by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics. The original paper census returns were subsequently destroyed. Because of concerns regarding the deterioration of the 1950s-era acetate microfilms, Statistics Canada copied the microfilms in 2005-2006, creating a new master on a more stable support.

Statistics Canada transferred the care and control of the census returns (on microfilm) to Library and Archives Canada on 1 January 2023.

Copy/version note:

Digitized images of the returns were prepared from the microfilmed census returns.

Restrictions on access note:

Digitized images of the microfilm must be consulted rather than the microfilm originally received by Library and Archives Canada.

Accruals:

No further accruals are expected.
