Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by Justice Canada's Legal Services Unit in the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in Ottawa, Ontario.

The records document various subjects, such as, band elections, claims, policing agreements, constitutional reform, review of First Nations education, administration of Justice in the Northwest Territories, and the Jay Treaty. This accession also contains legislation files related to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Act, the Canada Oil and Gas Land Regulations, and proposed amendments to Indigenous health regulations. It includes as well, some litigation files, including those related to the Sparrow case heard by the Supreme Court of Canada, and in which the Court upheld the Indigenous ancestral rights to fishing.
