Dominion Council of Health (Canada) : The Dominon Council of Health (DCH) was created under Section 6 of the Department of Health Act of 1919 and re-affirmed under under Section 7 of the Department of National Health and Welfare Act of 1944. It advised the Minister of National Health and Welfare on matters relating to the health of Candians; in particular, the DCH focused its attention on the coordination of federal-provincial health programmes, and liasion between the two levels of government. The Council was composed of a Chair (the Deputy Minister of National Health), the Chief Executive Officer of each provincial department or board of health, and five members representing various segments of the Canadian population: the latter were appointed by Order-in-Council to three year terms. The Council ceased to function between 1973 and 1974.
