20.3 cm of textual records.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of photographs including an album showing parliamentary delegates of British Dominions and Colonies, [ca. 1916], portraits of wives and daughters of delegates to the Imperial Conference; the temporary quarters of the House of Commons after the fire of 1916; and a portrait of E.N. Rhodes, 1904-1932.
Volume 1 of this fonds also contains an original poem to Senator Rhodes from William Henry Drummond (1902); a photocopy of a speech re the laying of the cornerstone for the new Nova Scotia Public Archives building (1929); a photocopy of Senator Rhodes' eulogy (1942); and a photocopy of a letter to Senator Rhodes from W.A. Allan (1920) with a photocopy of an enclosure from the Ottawa Snowshoe Club (1870). (Volume 1 of 3). Originals, 2 pages; photocopies, 8 pages.

Inclusive dates are 1900 - 1959.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Rhodes, Edgar Nelson, 1877-1942 : Edgar Nelson Rhodes was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1908 general election. He was re-elected in 1911 and 1917. On February 3rd, 1916, he was elected Deputy-Speaker of the House of Commons. In January 1917 he was elected speaker of the House of Commons, followed by a re-election in March 1918. In 1925 he was elected to the Nova Scotia legislature and became Premier and Provincial Secretary. He was re-elected in the 1928 general election. In 1930 he resigned this position to accept the Minister of Fisheries portfolio in the federal government. He was elected to the House of Commons in 1932 by acclamation for the Richmond West, Cape Breton constituency, and was appointed Minister of Finance. In 1933 he represented Canada at the World Economic Conference. He was summoned to the Senate in 1935.Additional information:General note:This material was received from Edgar Nelson Rhodes, Jr. in 1977 and 1979.
