Fonds consists of a scrapbook collection consisting primarily of letters, memorabilia, press clippings, photographs and invitations relating to the life and activities of T. Stewart Lyon: his service overseas as a war correspondent during the Great War, his journalism career at The Globe and his chairmanship of Ontario Hydro. Fonds consists of correspondence relating to Ontario Hydro, 1934-1937; with Sir Wilfrid Laurier, 1911-1914; his support for Field Marshal Haig in 1935; his attendance at the dedication of the Vimy Ridge Memorial in July, 1936. Medallic items include a World War I British War medal and miniature; a World War I Victory medal and miniature; a George VI Coronation medal and one copper plate.

Lyon, Thomas Stewart, 1866-1946 : Thomas Stewart Lyon, editor and journalist, was born at Port Glasgow, Scotland, educated in local schools and became a harness maker. He came to Canada in 1886 after working in the United States and settled in Toronto. In 1888 he joined The Globe as a police and municipal reporter before going to Ottawa as Parliamentary correspondent. In 1897 he became city editor and three years later news editor. After the death of John A. Ewan, he became associate editor, in 1910, and managing editor following the resignation of Dr. J.A. MacDonald in 1915. He was made a director of the newspaper in 1922.

He was appointed chairman of Ontario Hydro in 1934 by the Hepburn Administration and resigned from that position in 1937, following a disagreement with the Premier on a matter of policy.

He lived in Toronto in semi-retirement until his death in 1946. His daughter, Marion, is married to Benjamin V. Levinter.
