Fonds consists of the photographic records of the Camera Club of Ottawa, 1896-1988. It includes photos from the W.F.C. Anderson collection of the Camera Club of Ottawa, salon prints and award winning and nominated positives and slides from various competitions of the club, white slides and one colour positive taken during trips to Latin America, and photos from the club's exhibit "Seventy-five years of Photography".

Fonds also contains textual records under the following series titles: Correspondence; Administration, Activities, Subject Files, and Printed Material, 1915-1982 and 1987-1989. There is one microfilm reel reproducing a minute book, 1894-1900, that also includes loose correspondence and memoranda. Microfilmed material is located on microfilm reel M-1964.

Camera Club of Ottawa : The Camera Club of Ottawa was established in 1894 by a group of amateur Ottawa photographers. Practising photography mainly in the summer, its members met during the winter to discuss their photographs and hold exhibitions. In 1933, the Baird Trophy, presented by Doctor Baird and awarded for the best print of the year, reflected the competitive spirit that has been a characteristic of the Club.

In 1935, a formal class distinction was drawn between novice and experienced photographers. The addition of the Advanced Class during the 1950's was an attempt to bridge the differing capabilities between beginners and veterans. Travelling salons were a key activity in the 1950's, and exchanges of photographs were made with other camera clubs across the country, including Hart House Camera Club, Montreal Camera Club, The Camera Obscurists of Halifax, and the Hamilton Camera Club.

Textual records were received in 1979 and 1983 from the Camera Club of Ottawa. Two items were transferred from the Documentary Art and Photography Division in 1984.
209 photographs, 1941-1981, which are salon prints from various competitions of the Camera Club of Ottawa (accession 1983-191 NPC): Acquired in 1983 or earlier from Gilles Guttadauria, Ottawa, Ont.
684 photographs, 1946-1947, were taken during trips to Latin America; and across Canada (accession 1983-031 NPC): Acquired in 1983 or earlier from Warren McKinney, of the Ottawa Camera Club, Ottawa, Ont.
256 photographs, 1896-1970, that are prints from the Ottawa Camera Club's exhibit "Seventy-five years of Photography" (accession 1971-161 NPC): acquired in 1971 or earlier from Robert Lundgren of the Ottawa Camera Club, Ottawa, Ont. 12 award winning and nominated photographs, 1983-1984, in various categories, by members of the Camera Club of Ottawa (accession 1987-018 NPC): acquired in 1987 or earlier from Tyllon Sierhuis of Ottawa, Ont. Eight award winning photographs, 1983-1986, predominant 1985, by members of the Camera Club of Ottawa (accession 1989-424 DAP): acquired in 1989 or earlier from Ottawa Camera Club archivist and member responsible for equipment, 1985-1987, Robert Pronovost of Hull, Que.
