Fonds consists of account books containing original copies of accounts, sales for goods exported to England on Owen's account, chiefly oats, deals and salt; original copies of invoices for goods shipped to Charlottetown; a photocopy of a letter from Daniel Gordon 6 September 1870 concerning J.C. Pope and the political situation in Prince Edward Islan.

Owen, Lemuel C., 1822-1912 : Lemuel C. Owen was born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on 1 November 1822 and was successful in politics, ship-building and trade during his career. He was post master general of the colony from 1860 until being first elected to the Assembly in 1866. Owen served as premier of the province from 1873 until 1876 and supervised the end of the proprietorial land holding system, the cost of which was born by the federal government as a result of the 1873 Confederation agreement. Owen continued on as a merchant until the end of his career having his business on King St. in Charlottetown. He died on 26 November 1912.
