Topics include constitution and policy, administration, membership, biographies of potters, briefs and articles, correspondence, exhibitions, history of the Guild, newsletters, other organizations, publications, publicity, workshops and scrapbooks of photographs, [1936-1976].
Fonds consists of photographs of potters from all parts of Canada at work, [ca. 1956-1965].
Fonds also contains blueprints of the interior of an art gallery installed by the Canadian Guild of Potters at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto for the National Home Show, 1963.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Canadian Guild of Potters : The Canadian Guild of Potters was a non-profit, national association of artists and potters which flourished between the years 1936 and 1976. It was formed by a small group of Ontario potters for the purpose of raising and maintaining standards in Canadian ceramic art and craftsmanship.
The Guild aimed to establish a high standard for Canadian pottery and to support measures leading to this end; to act as a medium for the exchange of ideas and technical information; to promote ceramic exhibitions by Canadian artists; to encourage the use of Canadian clays and other materials for ceramics; to encourage the development and awareness of the ceramic medium in schools and other community centres; to provide outlets for the sale of juried work by members and to provide contacts with architects/designers for commission work.Additional information:General note:Received in 1976 and 1977 from the Canadian Guild of Potters through Gordon A.
