Fonds consists of history; subject files; financial information and statements; contracts and agreements; trade literature and advertising; federal and provincial governments; shares and bonds; appraisal reports; pay sheets, print-outs and ledgers. Fonds includes photographic material depicting plant operations, promotional activities, and products of the Beach Foundry Company, 1920-1960.

Fonds also consists of architectural plans, 1927-1979, of residences, churches, community centres, mobile homes and housing projects that were forwarded to Beach Foundry Limited to prepare heating systems. Included is a sampling of plans for the Beach Mark 1 and 11 heating systems; a piping plan, three building plans for insurance purposes and a lot/block plan.

Beach Foundry Limited : The Beach Foundry Limited, appliance manufacturer, was established in 1894 by Benson Clothier Beach (1870-1949) in Winchester, Ont. Under the name of B.C. Beach and Company, it initially produced coal and wood ranges, heaters, and furnaces for the local market. In 1903 the company incorporated provincially as the Beach Foundry Company Limited, and in 1914 the expanding business relocated in nearby Ottawa. By 1920, Beach was competing in the national market and thus obtained a dominion charter in that year, with the name Beach Foundry Limited. A new plant was opened in 1921 and was expanded throughout the 1920s. New lines of gas, electric, and combination ranges were introduced in 1925, and in 1934 production of refrigerators commenced. Other products included water heaters and warm air furnaces. During World War II Beach was involved in armaments production.

Until its takeover in 1955, the operation of the firm was largely a family affair. After the death of B.C. Beach in 1949, his son Donald J. Beach became president and his son-in-law A.L. Acton, formerly secretary-treasurer, became vice-president. In 1955 Beach was taken over by The Alexander Fleck Limited (est. 1842), an Ottawa manufacturer of machinery for the pulp and paper industry. The two firms shared the premises of Beach's Ottawa factory. In 1968, Fleck in turn became a division of Beach.

Beach was subsequently taken over in 1973 by Canadian Admiral Corporation, a subsidiary of the Chicago-based Admiral Corporation, and changed its name to Beach Appliances International. Although it was still a profitable business, Beach was closed down in October 1980 following the takeover of Canadian Admiral by York Lambton Inc.
