Fonds consists of certified copy of the King's Commission to Samuel Holland, appointing him "Surveyor General of Lands for Making a Survey of the Northern District of the Continent of North America", photocopy, 1764, 2 pages; correspondence, accounts and draft editions of Samuel Holland relating to the Surveyor General's office, its staff and activities, 1794-1795, 25 pages.

Holland, Samuel, 1728-1801 : Samuel Holland, a Dutchman, joined the British Army in 1754 and served in America during the Seven Years' War. Appointed Surveyor General of the Northern District of North America, in 1764, he supervised surveys of the Maritimes and Quebec, including the Loyalist settlements. His appointment to the Quebec Council in 1779 was not renewed in 1791.
