Dobie, Richard, ca. 1731-1805 : Richard Dobie was born in Scotland about 1731. He came to Canada during the mid-late 16th century and soon established himself in the fur trade. He acted as a trader in partnerships with Lawrence Ermatinger, Pierre Montbrun and Benjamin Frobisher, and acted as an outfitter and financier of trading ventures with such traders as Etienne Campion, William Grant, and John Grant. Dobie also became a member of the Montreal militia, holding rank of captain and major. He retired from the trade in about 1790 and died in 1805.
