Fonds consists of two letters written by Charles Robertson and one by Alexander Robertson, describing their journey from Aberdeenshire to Montreal, and the tragic death after childbirth of Mrs. Robertson, dated 1846, 12 pages; a poem entitled "Starlight" written in 1863, 1 page; a poem written by John Reid on the death of Charles Robertson in 1889, 1 page; and genealogical material, photocopy, 3 pages.

Robertson, Alexander, 1812-1847 : Alexander Robertson (1812-1847) was the eldest son of William Robertson (1784-1860) and Jane Donald (b. 1791), a farming family from Moneymusk, Aberdeenshire. In April 1846, Alexander left Scotland for Canada with his wife Ann Watt (1812-1846) and seven children, of whom the eldest Charles, was thirteen years old. Ann Watt died 2 May, four days after giving birth to a premature child. From Quebec, the Robertsons travelled by steamboat to Montreal where they joined the children's uncles; by late July they were farming again with a stock of seven cows. Alexander Robertson survived his wife only by one year.
