Correspondence: general, 1930-1931.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Montreal Finnish National Society : The Montreal Finnish National Society (Montrealin Suomalainen Kansallis Seura) was founded in 1930 by a dissident group of Finnish nationalists who had broken away from the Montreal Suomi Society (Montrealin Suomi-Seura). Like the Montreal Suomi Society, it was specifically formed as a right-wing, anti-communist society dedicated to the eradication of the influence of the "Red" Finns in Montreal. However, it soon became apparent that not enough "White" Finns lived there to support two such rival societies. Consequently, the Montreal Finnish National Society was dissolved in 1931, and most of its members rejoined the Montreal Suomi Society.Additional information:General note:After the Montreal Finnish National Society dissolved itself, its records were deposited in the Archives of St. Michael's Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Montreal. In 1967, they were transferred to the Archives of the Finnish War Veterans in Montreal.
