Collection consists of genealogy tracing the Howard-Gibbon family from its origins, starting with Catherine Howard, fifth wife of Henry VIII executed in 1542 through the ancestors and descendants of Edward Howard Howard-Gibbon (1799-1849) whose family came to Canada in 1858; with copies of family documents, baptism and marriage certificates, death records and wills and the Armorial Bearings of Edward Howard Howard-Gibbon Esquire-College of Arms, London. A photograph of the Letters Patent granted to Edward Howard-Gibbon on 6 February 1843 is included in the collection.

Howard-Gibbon (family) : Edward Howard Howard-Gibbon (1799-1849), Esquire of Arundel and Norray King of Arms in the College of Arms, London, was the son of the 11th Duke of Norfolk. He married Amelia Dendy of Horsham in 1824, and they had six children.

After Edward's death in 1849 his family were compelled to leave their home in the College Building at Arundel Castle, and in 1858 immigrated to Canada, where the eldest daughter Amelia Frances, who was already an accomplished artist, was teaching at St. Thomas, Ontario. Amelia settled near Toronto with her two sons, Henry Frederick, who was studying law, and Charles, who later made a career with the Nothern Railway Company. Caroline, another daughter, married Benjamin Walker, a barrister at St.Thomas.
