Fonds consists of a diary kept by Donald Finlayson describing his journey with his brother John and others from the forks of the Saskatchewan River to Reindeer Lake where they built a shanty, typescript, dated 12 July 1888 to 2 January 1889, 13 pages; and extracts of letters from Gideon Halcrow, the man in charge of the Hudson's Bay Company post at the south end of Reindeer Lake, to H. Belanger, Chief Factor of the Hudson's Bay Company, Cumberland District, reporting the discovery of the bodies of the Finlayson brothers, typescript, dated 31 January and 16 February, 1889, 2 pages.

Finlayson, Donald, d. 1889 : Donald and John Finlayson set out Lac du Brochet at the north end of the lake on 7 December 1888. When their provisions were depleted, they turned back. They died on 2 January 1989, seven miles from their shanty.
