Maitland, Peregrine, Sir, 1777-1854 : Sir Peregrine Maitland was a career soldier who rose to the rank of General in 1846. He served as Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada from 1818 to 1828, Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia, 1828-1834, and Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Cape of Good Hope in 1843.
