Item consists of a typescript (4 pages) portion of the memoirs of William Phillips. The typescript describes a journey with the "Overlanders" in 1862, from Fort Garry to the Cariboo gold mines in British Columbia, including a trip down the Fraser River on a raft.

Phillips, William, 1838-1919 : William Phillips emigrated from Ireland, ca. 1861, and settled briefly with his father near Ogdensburg, N.Y. He spent most of his life in the United States, where he was involved in such enterprises as mining.
