Fonds consists of correspondence, sports business records including financial ledgers, minutes, statements, annual reports, memoranda, contracts, programmes and other material relating to Gorman's life and activities (volumes 1-7), 1903-1973. Volume 7 has been microfilmed and is available on reel H-2297.

The fonds contains original photographs depicting Gorman's activities as a lacrosse player, hockey manager and sports promoter in Canada, U.S.A., and Mexico; horse and dog racing activities; team photos including the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club; baseball; skating; a portrait of Barbara Ann Scott, 1900-1955; House of Commons pages' baseball team and hockey team, Ottawa, Ont., ca.1900; House of Commons and Senate Cricket Elevens, Ottawa, Ont., June, 1901; Regina Minto Cup Lacrosse Team, Regina, Sask., 15 May, 1909; and Wanderer Hockey Club, Montreal, Que., 1908. The fonds also contains copies of group photos of N.H.L. teams and portraits of N.H.L. executives and players.

Included in horizontal storage: posters and calendars pertaining to various hockey teams and games, containers 8-34.

Gorman, Thomas Patrick, 1886-1961 : Thomas Patrick Gorman, sports promoter, businessman and athlete, was born in 1887. He first became involved with organized sport when he played baseball in the late 1890s with the Parliamentary page boys' team. He was a sports reporter with the Ottawa Citizen until 1921 when he assumed full-time duties with the Ottawa Senators as team manager. Gorman was one of the founders of the National Hockey League and coached and/or managed four different teams to seven Stanley Cups. In 1949 Gorman took the Ottawa Senators, then in the Quebec Senior Hockey League, to victory in the Allan Cup. At this time Gorman also operated the Ottawa Nationals Baseball Club in the Border League.

In 1950 he organized and promoted a national tour by Barbara Ann Scott. A life-long interest in horse racing led to his eventual ownership of Connaught Park Raceway. As the owner of the Ottawa Auditorium Company he was responsible for bringing a wide variety of shows from the Ice Follies to Frank Sinatra to Ottawa. A talented athlete himself, Gorman was a member of Canada's World and Olympic Champion Lacrosse team of 1908.

General note:

Textual records received in 1976 from Mr. Frank Gorman of Ottawa, Ont.
Twenty-five photographs were loaned to the National Archives of Canada and copied. The originals were returned to the lender.
