Fonds consists of personal papers of Dr. S. Demydchuk, original, 1912-1965, 8 cm; records of Mrs. Maria Demydchuk-Churchman, original, 1936-1970, 4 cm; printed material, original, 1929-1973, 18 cm, photocopy, n.d., 0.4 cm.

Also included in the fonds are photographs depicting activities of Simon Demydchuk, primarily in the U.S.A. and including meetings, speeches, and group photographs. These photos are identified in Ukrainian. There are copies of four photographs including Simon Demydchuk in an internment camp , Fort Lee, North Carolina, 3 June 1920, and a portrait, 1913.

Demydchuk, Simon (family) : Simon Demydchuk (1884-1965) was born in Buzhsk, Galicia (Halychyna - Western Ukraine) of Ukrainian parents. He received his L.L.D. in 1914 and became actively involved as the organizer of the Ukrainian National School (Ridna Shkola) in Western Ukraine. In 1912 he travelled to North America where he toured Ukrainian settlements in Canada and the United States to raise money for the movement. During World War I, Simon Demydchuk again went to the United States to organize assistance for the Ukrainian National Republic (1917-1921). After the war he resided in the United States and dedicated the rest of his life to the Ukrainian cause.

Maria née Ginka Demydchuk-Churchman, born in 1903 at Horayetz, Western Ukraine, immigrated to America in 1923. She married Dr. Simon Demydchuk in 1924, and later married Marian Churchman. For fifteen years she worked in the Ukrainian Women's Association of America, in New York, as a press secretary. In addition to many other activities, she was the chairman of the "Resettlement Centre" in New York for Ukrainians emigrating from Germany, Austria and other countries. She left the U.S. and settled in Toronto, Ont. where she became involved in Ukrainian Social Services.

Photographs were loaned to the National Archives of Canada and copied. The originals were returned to the lender.
