The fonds also contains photographs which depict the activities of Victor Kangas and of the Finnish Organization of Canada; as well as portraits of members of the Kangas family,1923-1969.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Kangas, Victor, 1902-1973 : Victor Kangas, historian and carpenter, née Vihtori Kivikangas, was born in 1902 at Evijarvi, Finland. He immigrated to Canada in 1924, after completion of his compulsory service in the Finnish army. During his first years in Canada, he worked on the hydro-electric project in the Kenogami region of Quebec. When employment ended there, he settled in Montreal and worked as a carpenter until his retirement.
After his marriage with Olga Pesonen failed, Kangas married Mrs. Martta Aaltonen (née Haavisto) who had two children, Aare and Aili, from her earlier marriage. He was survived by his wife Martta.
Within the Finnish Canadian community, Kangas was well known as a violinist and Finnish Organization of Canada (FOC) activist. He had been an energetic organizer for the FOC both in Montreal and Kenogami, serving on the executive of the FOC locals there.
