Fonds consists of a diary of Gyula Izsak, 1890-1907, in which he described childhood experiences and village life in Bereg, Hungary, his family's emigration to Canada, and their first years in Bekevar, Saskatchewan.

Izsak, Gyula, 1884-1960 : Born in Bereg, Hungary, Gyula Izsak, farmer and journalist, came to Canada with his parents in 1901. They settled in Bekevar (now Kipling), Saskatchewan, where Izsak farmed, and for a brief period operated a store. In 1934, he moved to Toronto, where he worked as a reporter for local Hungarian newspapers.
