Fonds consist of correspondence, n.d., 1958-1974, 1980-1983, speeches, n.d., 1944-1973, newspaper clippings, n.d., 1932-1973, scrapbook and publications relating to Sarah Gotlieb's activities on behalf of Canadian Hadassah-Wizo. Included are dedication books: Shaarey Zedek Synangogue, Winnipeg Manitoba, 1950; Silver Jubilee Volumes: Western Canadian Hadassah, 1917-1942; 11th Annual Report, Jewish Welfare Fund of Winnipeg, 1948; Conference Program, Z.O.C.-Hadassah, Mid-West Region, Winnipeg, May 15-18, 1948; and Program of Official Inauguration of Canada Hall, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, May 9, 1955. One file of additional personal papers relating to Mrs. Gotlieb and her son Allan Gotlieb, Canadian Ambassador to the United States including newspaper clippings, articles and some correspondence. Photographs, 1914-1970, depict activities of Sally Gotlieb as president of Canadian Hadassay-WIZO in Israel and Canada; projects and buildings in Israel financed by Hadassah-WIZO and the Gotlieb family.

Gotlieb, Sarah, 1900-1998 : Sarah Gotlieb, communal leader, was born in 1900 at Philadelphia, Penn., the daughter of Judah and Rebecca Schiller who had migrated to the United States from Poland. In 1912 she moved with her family to Winnipeg. She married David P. Gotlieb and has two children, Eunice and Allan. A life-long Zionist she joined Young Judea in 1914. In 1923, she became a member of Ezra chapter of Hadassah and served as Secretary and President. In 1932 she was elected President of the Winnipeg Hadassah Council. At the 8th Biennial Conference in 1934 she was elected Western Vice-President, a position she held until 1951. That year she was elected National President and served in that capacity until 1955. In 1971, she was made Honorary President for Life for her distinguished service to Canadian Hadassah-Wizo.

On a visit to Palestine with her husband in 1937 she met Henrietta Szold, the founder of Youth Aliyah. During the same trip they visited Odessa, Kiev, Moscow, Warsaw, and Berlin where they took note of the plight of European Jewry. On her return to Canada she became one of the founders of the Youth Aliyah movement in Canada, devoted to the rescue of children from Europe and settling them in Palestine, and served as the first Youth Aliyah National Chairman in 1942. Mrs. Gotlieb has been active on behalf of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem having served as National Chairman for the Hebrew University portfolio from 1957 to 1961. In recognition of her efforts on behalf of the University she made a Deputy Governor in 1958 and an Honorary Fellow in 1967.

Mrs. Gotlieb was the first National Chairman of the Women's Division of the Israel Bond Organization of Canada from 1955 to 1963. She was the Winnipeg Negev Dinner Honoree in 1955. As National Centennial Chairman of Hadassah, she co-ordinated the presentation of the Soncino Talmud to leading universities during Canada's Centennial Year.
