Fonds also consists of photographs depicting Reverend Sato at Lulu Island, B.C.; Mrs. Sato at New Westminster, B.C.; and Reverend and Mrs. Sato with family at Steveston, B.C.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Sato, Stephen S., b. 1899 : Stephen Shinji Sato was born in 1899 in Japan and received his naturalization documents in 1903, thereby making him a British subject in Canada. He married Frances Masae Tamura in December 1923. They made their home in Steveston, British Columbia.
Sato was very active in his community, especially with the Japanese Steveston Association. In the 1940s, Japanese families in numerous British Columbia communities including Steveston were evacuated and relocated to Manitoba. The Sato family was issued their evacuation orders and left Steveston on 20 April, 1942. They were moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba.Additional information:General note:Material was loaned to the National Archives of Canada in 1978 by Mr. and Mrs. K.A. Ellis of Winnipeg, Man.
