Suksi, Edwin L., 1906-1982 : Edwin L. Suksi was born in Teuva, Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1924. He obtained employment in Fort William Ont., as a bush-worker and union organizer for the Lumber Workers' Industrial Union of Canada. He moved to Sudbury in 1932 and soon became involved in the development of Finnish Canadian arts and athletics there.

In 1935, he was appointed Business Manager of Vapaus Publishing Company Limited, and became active in the Finnish Organization of Canada as a perennial member of its National Executive Committee. He also maintained an active presence on the Executive Board of that organization's Sudbury Local. Following his retirement from Vapaus in 1971, he became the founding president of the Finnish Senior Citizens Club of Sudbury.
