Fonds consists of Canada-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry minutes financial statements, correspondence, 1956-1982; personal records and correspondence, 1889, 1917-1997; subject files 1937-1982; Canadian Society for the Weizmann Institute of Science, material relating primarily to fund-raising activites, 1957-1983; Barcan Sweets Ltd., business correspondence and records, 1952-1977; and Les Amitiés Culturelles Canada-Israel Inc. 1963-1980.

Fonds also contains photographs depicting the activities of Dr. Stephen Barber from 1946 to 1977, as follows: activities of the Canadian-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry; activities of the Canadian Society for the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel; visit of Rt. Hon. Lester Pearson to Israel, 1968 and the Reconstructionist Synagogue of Montreal.

Fonds also contains various recordings collected by Barber about the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Canadian Society for the Weizman Institute of Science, and the Canada Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry luncheons, 1967-1980.

Barber, Stephen S., 1911-1983 : Stephen Barber was born in Roussinov, western Czechoslovakia. He studied in Switzerland, Spain and France before receiving his Doctorate at Masaryk University in Brno. He practiced law in Brno from 1935 to 1938 and served on the International Board of the Fédération internationale des ligues contre l'antisémitisme based in Paris from 1936 to 1937. He was also the representative of the Czechoslovak Jewish community with the World Jewish Congress Executive from 1938 to 1939. In September 1939 he joined the Czechoslovak Forces in France and served until 1945;

in 1945, Dr. Barber was appointed Head of the Department for Relief and Rehabilitation, World Jewish Congress (WJC) based in London, England. He served as Honorary Secretary of the WJC, British Section from 1948 to 1953 and was Chairman of the Committee of Jews from Czechoslovakia for material claims against Germany in 1954. Barber settled in Montreal in 1954 as an importer of Israeli and European food products. He established the Canada-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry in May 1961 and served as its executive director until 1973;

in 1966, he was appointed Executive Director of the Canadian Society for the Weizmann Institute of Science, and served as its Executive Vice-President from 1973 until his retirement in 1977. Dr. Barber was a founding member of Les Amitiés culturelles Canada français-Israël Inc. and of the Reconstructionist Synagogue of Montreal. He was Commander of the Sgt. Moe Hurwith Post, Montreal, of the Jewish War Veterans of Canada 1979. Dr. Barber devoted his retirement to studying the history of the Jewish communities in Moravia.
