The fonds also contains war-time ration tokens, n.d.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Flaherty, Dorothy Eva, 1905-1985 : Dorothy Eva Rhodes, (1905-1985) born in Medicine Hat, Alta., graduated from the University of Manitoba, 1925. After teaching high school in Selkirk, Manitoba, she worked as a reporter for the Winnipeg Free Press, until her marriage in 1934 to Frank Flaherty. They settled in Ottawa, and raised four children. Dorothy Flaherty participated in groups urging political and legislative changes affecting the status of women. She was president of the University Women's Club of Ottawa, vice-president of the Ottawa Council of Women, and served on the executive of the Canadian Federation of University Women and the National Council of Women of Canada for many years as chairman of various committees.
Dorothy Flaherty was also a member of the Canadian Committee on the Status of Women, an organization formed in 1952 to lobby for changes in the Succession Duty Act and family law, and she headed this body in its final years from 1974 to 1982. She was also active in the Canadian Criminology and Corrections Association and the Elizabeth Fry Society.
