Fonds consists of training manuals and printed material pertaining to the Royal Canadian Air Force Navigation training and operations; flying log books, manuals and printed material relating to Royal Air Force Transport Command later known as the Ferry Command, 1937-1949.

The fonds contains photographs attributed to Carl Kittridge of Curtiss Helldiver aircraft of the Aéronavale being delivered across the United States-Canada border between Houlton, Maine and Woodstock, N.B., September to October, 1939. The fonds also contains group photos of personnel at R.C.A.F./R.A.F stations in Prince Albert, Sask., Rivers, Man., and Greenwood, N.S., 1941-1942; personnel and aircraft of R.A.F. Ferry Command, 1943, in England, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia; portraits and snapshots of F/O E.J. Briggs and Friends, 1941-1944; one photo is by Harvey Studio, Woodstock, N.B.

The fonds consists of plotting and aeronautical charts covering Saskatchewan and Manitoba to the North Atlantic, collected by Earle Briggs while in training and as an officer with the Royal Air Force Transport Command (later Ferry Command).

Briggs, Earle J., 1923- : Earle J. Briggs, born in 1923 at Woodstock, N.B., enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) in 1941 soon after completing his matriculation exams. After reporting to the R.C.A.F. induction centre in Moncton, N.B., he received a brief training at No. 1 Manning Depot in Toronto, Ont. This was followed by doing guard duty at No. 5 Service Flying Training School at Brantford, Ont., and then by futher training at No. 5 Initial Training School at Belleville, Ont., in various subjects ranging from armanent to wireless telegraph and from administration to mathematics.

These courses were in turn followed by actual flying training at No. 6 Air Observers School at Prince Albert, Sask., and by bombing and gunnery training at Dafoe, Sask. He next received training at No. 1 Astro Navigation School at Rivers, Man.; still further specialized training brought him in 1943 to the Royal Air Force Transport Command, later the Ferry Command in which he was posted first in the Mediterranean, then in West Africa then at Dorval, Quebec. In the Ferry Command, Briggs was a navigator of eight new aircraft delivered to theatres of war, of which seven were for the United Kingdom.

After V.E. Day, Briggs conducted briefings for No. 6 Group (Canadian) of Bomber Command in preparation for Pacific operations. He was discharged form the R.C.A.F. at the cessation of hostilities.
