Fonds consists of recollections written in 1920 by David O'Brien, who was captured by the German Army in 1916. The recollections describe the period from 1914 to 1918 and focus on the harsh treatment he experienced as a prisoner of war and on his three escape attempts.

O'Brien, David Stephen, 1899-1965 : David Stephen O'Brien, soldier, born in 1899 at Thurso, Que., enlisted in 1915 in the 8th Canadian Mounted Rifles. His Regiment left for England in the same year and went to the front, at the end of the year. In 1916, he was captured at Passchendaele and was made a Prisoner of War. He was interned from 1916 to 1918 at Dulmen, Munster, Minden, and Senna. He thrice attempted to escape, being successful on the third occasion in 1918.

After the war and for the rest of his life, he received a 100% disability pension from the Canadian Pension Commission.
