In 1937, he moved to University College, Winnipeg, where he taught economics until 1941. In 1941, Woods interrupted his career to join the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and from 1942 until 1945, he was part of the Directorate of Personnel Selection.
Following World War II, Woods joined the staff of McGill University. He was appointed the director of the School of Commerce in 1946, and the director of the Industrial Relations Centre in 1948. He served as the Dean of Arts and Science from 1964 to 1969 and became Professor Emeritus in 1968. In 1976, Woods retired from McGill to return to his home province of New Brunswick, where he was visiting lecturer at the University of New Brunswick. Woods also advised the New Brunswick government on industrial relations. Harry Woods died in Ottawa on 7 May 1983.
