Canadian Conference on Aging (est. 1966) : The Canadian Conference on Aging grew out of the concern of hundreds of Canadians about the problems of their aged and aging citizens. Although there had been regional conferences on aging, it was necessary to design a conference which would encourage and co-ordinate regional input and create a National program. Using provincial committees, meetings of National and regional organizations were called. The chairman and executive secretary travelled across the country, gleaning ideas to be worked into the final program.

The provincial committees, the executive committee, and the other working committees have facilitated the involvement of hundreds of volunteers. Letters, information and suggestions concerning programs for the aged which have been received by the conference office have been incorporated into program and background documents. These activities are also part of the purposes and long range goals of the conference, namely, the stimulation of research and social action, the awakening of community awareness of the contribution that old people themselves make, and the improvement in co-operation between groups that are planning for the aged.

The Canadian Conference's first conference on Aging was sponsored by the Canadian Welfare Council, Ottawa, with the co-sponsorship of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canadian Labour Congress, Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Hospital Association, Canadian Public Health Association, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities, National Council of Women of Canada, Canadian Council of Churches, Canadian Jewish Congress, Canadian Catholic Conference, Canadian Association for Adult Education, and was held in Toronto, Ontario, 24-28 January 1966. A second conference was held in 1983 from which a bulletin and proceedings were published.
