Reaman, George Elmore, 1889-1969 : George Elmore Reaman was born in Concord, Ont., 1889, of Pennsylvania German and Yorkshire English parentage. He received his education form Victoria College of the University of Toronto, B.A. 1911, M.A. 1913, McMaster University, M.A. 1916, Queen's University and Cornell University, Ph.D. 1920.

His first positions were as a lecturer with Moose Jaw College, Sask., 1913-1914, and with Woodstock College, 1915-1919. He held various other positions including educational director, Y.M.C.A. Toronto, 1920-1924, editor with Macmillan Company of Canada, superintendent of the Bowmanville Boy's Training School, 1925-1932, and principal of Glen Lawrence School, Toronto, 1932-1939. In 1939 he joined the Department of English, Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph. He became professor of English at Waterloo College in 1954 and remained there until 1959, when he joined the University of Waterloo as head of Adult Education.

Dr. Reaman wrote a number of books including English Grammar for New Canadians, 1932, The Trail of the Black Walnut, 1957, The Trail of the Huguenots, 1964, A History of Agriculture in Ontario, 1970, and numerous articles. He was founder of the Ontario Genealogical Society and the Pennsylvania German Folklore Society of Ontario. He was a member of various associations, including the Canadian Author's Association and the International Platform Association. In his research, his publications and public addresses he examined the problems of child adjustment, the education of immigrants, and explored and publicized the contributions of groups of non-British origin to Canada's development.
