Fonds consists of correspondence; subject files largely relating to the Imperial Oil broadcasts 1930-1931; Commonwealth Broadcasting Conference in New Delhi in 1959; Back-to-the Land broadcasts in Winnipeg in 1935, CBC delegation to Russia in 1967; and Charles Jennings son Peter's radio career.

The fonds also contains photographs of Charles Jennings at the 1956 Commonwealth Broadcasting Conference, Sydney, Australia with other conference members; Jennings and other broadcasters at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India during the 1960 Commonwealth Broadcasting Conference held in New Delhi, India.

Also included in this fonds is a silent film consisting of a close-up of a "Turbo Jet" inboard motor; shots of boat capability demonstrations and shots of a dramatic rescue of trapped people aboard a yacht in the middle of rapids.

Jennings, Charles, 1908-1973 : Charles Jennings, broadcaster and public servant executive, was born in 1908 at Toronto, Ont., and graduated from the University of Toronto. He began his radio career as an announcer for station CKGW Toronto. Subsequently he turned to free lance and became known for his coast-to-coast broadcasts for Canadian Pacific Railways. In 1935 he joined the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission as an announcer. In 1936 he was appointed chief announcer for the newly formed Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. His was the voice of many historic broadcasts in radio's early years.

In 1938 Jennings turned to program administration with the C.B.C. He became Director of Programs in 1953, Controller of Broadcasting in 1957, and was appointed Vice-President and General Manager of Regional Broadcasting in 1964.

He is the father of Peter Jennings, journalist and news anchor on ABC and Sarah Jennings, political and cultural journalist.
