Collection includes playbills, theatre programes, music score, railway passes, World War I and II ration cards, menus, Arctic memorabilia, invitations, poems and other ephemera, 1812-1959.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Brunet, Pierre, 1898-1973 : Pierre Brunet est né à Québec le 23 décembre 1898, fils de Ludovic Brunet et d'Aldina Bolduc. Il fait ses études au séminaire de Québec, au collège Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière et à l'Université d'Ottawa. En 1921, il entre au journal "Le Soleil" de Québec comme journaliste. En 1925, il est nommé secrétaire particulier de l'honorable Lucien Cannon, solliciteur général du Canada, poste qu'il occupe jusqu'en 1930. En 1932, Pierre Brunet entre comme archiviste aux Archives publiques du Canada où il travaille jusqu'à sa retraite en 1965, alors qu'il est archiviste fédéral adjoint depuis 1956.
Pierre Brunet détient aussi une certaine expérience militaire. En 1918, il s'enrôle volontaire comme simple soldat en Angleterre et revient continuer ses études au pays en 1919. Il s'enrôle de nouveau comme volontaire avec le rang de major lors de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale où il fait du service pendant deux ans comme commandant-en-second du Régiment de Hull sur la côte du Pacifique.
Au cours des années 1940-1950, Pierre Brunet écrit de nombreux textes de causeries radiophoniques pour Radio-Canada, entre autres, sur les Archives publiques du Canada, sur des personnalités et des événements de l'histoire canadienne. Il est aussi réviseur de textes et conseiller historique pour d'autres émissions à la radio et à la télévision.
Petrie, Alfred E. H., 1912- : Mr. Alfred E.H. Petrie was born in Toronto in 1912 and graduated with an Honours B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario. He worked at the Toronto Royal Ontario Museum of Archaelogly, 1939-1942 and then at the University of Toronto. He served in the Canadian Army, 1942-1946 and after discharge worked for several companies before joining the staff of the Public Archives in 1955. He developed a childhood interest in numismatics during time spent in the store of George A. Lowe, an Ontario numismatic dealer. He further developed this interest in Belgium, France and England after the war.Additional information:General note:Received by the Manuscript Division from R.S.
