Beck, Geoffrey Ronald, 1896-1975 : Geoffrey R. Beck, pilot, aviator, insurance agent, was born in London, England. He enlisted in the London Regiment in 1914. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 where he specialized in advanced training and test work. Following the end of the war Beck was involved in a wide range of civilian activities until he came to Canada in 1929 to work as a test pilot for Curtis-Reid Aircraft Co. He left this firm in 1932 to enter the life insurance business, eventually specializing in aviation insurance. From 1941 to 1945 Beck was General Manager of No. 8 Air Observer School at Ancienne Lorette, Que., an establishment run by Canadian Pacific Airlines as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training plan.
