Fonds consists of two issues of "The Barb", a newspaper prepared by prisoners of war in Schweidnitz, Germany, 27 May and 30 July 1918, 10 pages; and copies of the envelopes in which the papers were sent to Canada, photocopy, 1918, 2 pages. Philatelic material consists of 2 illustrated postal covers used to mail copies of "The Barb" newspaper from the World War I Allied officers prisoner-of-war camp at Schneidnitz, Germany.

McCallum, Arthur Howard, 1896-1973 : Arthur Howard McCallum, military officer, was born at Cowichan, B.C., in 1896. In 1915, he went overseas with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, but in England he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He was shot down in April 1917 while doing reconnaissance over German lines. He was released after the Armistice and returned to Victoria, B.C. In World War II he served with the R.C.A.F., reaching the rank of Wing Commander, and received the M.B.E. (military). He died in Vernon, B.C., in 1973.
