8 maps.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of scrapbooks of clippings and maps pertaining to the career of Air Marshall Robert Leckie.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Leckie, Robert, 1890-1975 : Robert Leckie, air force officer, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and came to Canada in 1906. He returned to England in 1915, and joined the Royal Naval Air Service. In 1920, he came to Canada again as director of flying operations, Canadian Air Board. He attended the Naval Staff College, England, 1922-1923; from 1925 to 1929, was in command of British aircraft carriers; and from 1935 to 1938, was director of training for the British Air Ministry.
In 1940, he assumed the role of Canadian director of training, R.C.A.F., a role which ultimately gave him responsibility for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. In 1944, he was appointed chief of air staff, a post which he held until his retirement in 1947.
