Fonds consists of a typed memoir written by Rear Admiral F.L. Houghton entitled "A Sailor's Life for Me." which describes his experiences with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1913 until 1951.

Houghton, Frank Llewellyn, b. 1879 : Frank Llewellyn Houghton was born in England on 18 July 1897. He moved to Canada with his family in 1909 and eventually settled in British Columbia. Rear Admiral Houghton joined the Royal Navy College of Canada in Halifax in 1913 and served on a number of ships including H.M.S. Cumberland, H.M.S. Erin, H.M.S. Cairo, and the destroyer Patriot. He commanded the destroyers Vancouver on the West Coast and Saguenay on the East Coast. He served in World War II, 1939-1945, and became senior Canadian Naval Officer in London, Eng. in 1943 and later Head of the Canadian Naval Mission Overseas. In 1946, he became the 1st Commanding Officer of Canada's first Aircraft Carrier, H.M.C.S. Warrior.

He was a member of the Naval Board from 1947 until his retirement in 1951.
