Fonds consists of personal files of Dr. Allen Small relating primarily to his involvement in the parochial Jewish education system in Toronto from 1962 to 1979, including minutes of meetings, reports, memoranda and submissions from Jewish educational bodies including the Board of Jewish Education, Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto and the United Synagogue Day School.

Biography/Administrative history:

Small, Allen, 1921-1984 : Allen Small, physician and lay leader, graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1944 and served as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps for the duration of the war.

Most of his professional career was spent at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto where he headed the Division of Dermatology. He also served as Chief of the Department of Dermatology at the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care.

Active in Jewish community affairs, he served on many boards including the United Israel Appeal of Canada, Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University and the Zionist Organization of Canada. As an advocate of Jewish education, he served with great dedication of the Jewish Board of Education, as well as the Boards of the United Synagogue Day School and the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (C.H.A.T.).
