The Society dates back to 1898 with the establishment of The Women's Canadian Historical Society of Ottawa. The Society was inaugurated by Lady Edgar, President of the Women's Canadian Historical Society of Toronto. The name of the Society was changed on 5 August 1956 to the Historical Society of Ottawa. The Society operates out of the Bytown Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.Additional information:General note:For the materials relating to the Lincoln County Militia, see MG 24 G 41.
