Fonds consists of papers that have been organized into 6 series, as follows: Correspondence; Financial records; Personal material; Addresses and essays; Literary manuscripts - stories, serials; and Literary manuscripts - books, 1897-1990.

The fonds contains photographs including portraits of Frank Lucius Packard and William Faversham, 1897-ca.1920, ca.1935; photos of Packard and J.P. Marquand (possibly the American author) in the Forbidden City, Peking, China, 1920-1930; and photos and stills from a movie based on a Frank Lucius Packard novel, ca.1925-1930.

The fonds also contains art work done by Frances Rogers, William Jacobs, B. Cory Kilvert, and Hugh Peck; and a sound recording of an oral history interview done in 1971 with Marguerite Pearl (MacIntyre) Packard, Frank Lucius Packard's widow.

Packard, Frank Lucius, 1877-1942 : Frank Lucius Packard, a prolific writer of adventure and mystery stories, was born in Montreal, Que., and studied engineering at McGill University, graduating in 1897. After working for several years as an engineer in the United States, he became a full-time writer, publishing his first story, "Corporal Bob", in 1906. In 1911 he published the first of 31 books. Perhaps best known for the creation of Jimmie Dale, Packard was also a popular author of railway stories and mysteries set in the Far East. He wrote as well such novels as "The Miracle Man" and "The Sin That Was His" which were later adapted into motion pictures. Packard did most of his writing in Canada and was a founding member of the Canadian Authors Association.

General note:

Received in 1970 from Frank Packard's widow, Marguerite Pearl Packard, and between 1975 and 1990 from his son L.H. Packard of Montréal, Quebec.

Related material:

A diary and an unpublished manuscript by Frank Packard's wife, Marguerite Pearl Packard, recording their South Seas trip, 1912-1913, have been transferred from the Frank L. Packard fonds to the Marguerite Pearl Packard fonds (MG 30, D 97).
