Fonds also consists of sound recordings of speeches or talks by MacKinnon, William Lyon MacKenzie King and T.C. Douglas. Also included are films entitled: Mission to Briish West Indies; South African interlude; Mission to South America; and Education in Saskathchewan.
Textual material consists of general correspondence; subject files; diaries and appointment books; clippings, scrapbooks and printed material; family papers.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:MacKinnon, James Angus, 1881-1958 : James Angus MacKinnon, senator, journalist, federal minister, was born in 1881 at Port Elgin, Ont., taught school in Ontario and Alberta, and was a businessman with interests in Edmonton, Alta. prior to entering politics. He was a Liberal Member of the House of Commons, 1935-1949 and served as a Member of the Privy Council, Minister without Portfolio, 1939-1940, Minister of Trade and Commerce, 1940-1948, Minister of Mines and Resources, 1948-1949, and Minister without Portfolio, 1949-1950. In 1949 he was appointed to the Senate.
