Fonds consists of subject files including correspondence, memoranda and reports. Most extensive are files concerning banks, federal finances, railways, shipping, and trade. Fonds also consists of an Order present by the British Crown to William Thomas White: The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint Geroge, Insignia of Knight Grand Cross, ca. 1935.

White, Thomas, Sir, 1866-1955 : William Thomas White was born to Eliza Fleming White and James White (both from Dromore, County Omagh, Northern Ireland), November 13, 1866. Following the death of James White, Eliza married Thomas Nicholl, with whom she had three more children including Emma, a half-sister to Thomas White. Emma married Dr. George Mason of Bowmanville.

Sir Thomas White married Annie Silverthrone of Jarvis, Ontario in 1890. Their only child died at an early age. Lady White died in 1948, and Sir Thomas in 1955. He received his education from the University of Toronto, B.A., and Osgoode Hall. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1899, practised law and became a financier at Toronto. Until his election to Parliament, White served with a number of banks and insurance companies in an executive capacity.

Sir White was a member of Parliament, 1911-1921, a member of the Privy Council, 1911, and a member of the Imperial Privy Council, 1920. He served as minister of Finance from 10 October 1911 until 1919. He resigned his government seat in 1921 and returned to business as chairman of the Board of Directors, Canadian Bank of Commerce.

Subject files received in 1955 from the estate of Sir White through J.M. Macdonell, M.P.

Medals received by donation from Mr. Robert J. Fleming in 2001.
An eulogy of Sir Robert Borden by Sir White was received in 1968 from Henry Borden.

Custodial history:

Medals acquired from Mr. Robert J. Fleming, Harrowsmith. Ontario by family descent from Dr. Evelyn Fleming, Toronto. It is presumed that the GCMG medals went to his half-sister, Mrs. Emma (Fleming) Mason. She passed the medals on to a cousin, Margaret Jane Braden Hutchinson. Her mother Elizabeth Jane Fleming was a sister to the donor's grandfather Robert J. Fleming. Margaret Jane lived with the Mason family for some time. Following the death of Mr. And Mrs. Mason, Miss Hutchinson lived with Dr. Evelyn Fleming. The medals were passed on to Dr. Evelyn Fleming.
