Fonds consists of correspondence files, subject files, speeches, addresses, press releases, radio broadcasts and press clippings.

Fonds also contains photographs showing politcal meetings; portraits and a panoramic photograph.

Oil painting is a probable depiction of the Hungarian Insurrection of 1956. The drawing is an original cartoon by John Collins entitled "A Man and His Shadow", ca. 1944.

Coldwell, Major James William, 1888-1974 : James William Coldwell, Member of Parliament, teacher and author, was born in 1888 at Seaton, Devon, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1910. Following a career as teacher, principal of a Regina school, alderman on the Regina city council, and President and Secretary of the Canadian Teacher's Federation, Coldwell became an active participant in and leader of various farm and labour organizations which sprang into existence with the advent of the depression in 1929.

He was a vice chairman of the Saskatchewan Farmers' Political Association, 1929-1932, president of the Independent Labour Party, Saskatchewan, 1930-1932, and provincial leader of the Farmer-Labour Party of Saskatchewan, 1932-1935. He was active in the formation and subsequent development of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.) as a national party, serving as National Secretary, 1938-1942, Parliamentary Leader, 1940-1958, and National President, 1942-1960. He was a Member of Parliament for Rosetown-Biggar, 1935-1958, and was appointed a Member of the Privy Council in 1964.
