Fonds consists of microfilmed material. There is a travel diary made on a trip through the Canadian west while investigating cases of swamp fever in horses, including details and livestock developments in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, biographical sketches of many physicians, research scientists, and owners of large ranches as well as photos of microscopic samples taken from infected horses, dated 13 July to 14 September 1908. There is a laboratory notebook kept by Dr. Todd to record work done in Western Canada containing examinations and investigative reports of horse suffering from swamp fever, with several photographs of horses studied, dated 27 July to 17 November 1908. This material is located on microfilm reel A-1623.

Todd, J.L., 1876-1949 : Physician Educator

John Lancelot Todd, born at Victoria, B.C., graduated from McGill University in 1900 with a degree in medicine. His first years of professional life were spent in Africa studying trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickess) and reporting on sanitation. He was instrumental in making early discoveries of the animal parasites known as trypansomes in man, and in determining their relationship to sleeping sickness. From 1907 through the first half of the 1920s he served as associate professor of parasitology at McGill University.
