Series consists of microfilmed records of the United States Department of State relating to the War of 1812: privateering, enemy aliens, prisoners of war, passports and travel, correspondence intercepted from the British, 1789-1815. This material is located on microfilm reels M-1574 to M-1580.

Includes letters, 1812 to 1814, concerning letters of marque and enemy aliens, microfilm reel M-1574; U.S. Marshal's returns of enemy aliens and prisoners of war, 1812-1815, microfilm reels M-1575 to M-1576; requests for permission to sail from U.S. ports as well as passenger lists of outgoing vessels, microfilm reel M-1577; and correspondence concerning passports, 1812 to 1814, microfilm reel M-1578. In addition, there are agreements for the exchange of prisoners of war, 1812-1813; miscellaneous letters received concerning the release of prisoners of war, 1812 to 1815; reports of William Lambert, secret agent, 1813; a memorandum on proper dress for a U.S. minister, n.d., microfilm reel M-1579; and miscellaneous correspondence intercepted from the British, microfilm reel M-1580.
