(Robert Norman), 1914- : Robert Thompson was born 17 May 1914 at Duluth, Minnesota. He taught school in Alberta and practised as a chiropractor before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, in which he served in the Commonwealth Air Training Scheme, 1941-1943. From 1944 to 1958 he was engaged in educational and mission work in Ethiopia and the Sudan, becoming a personal friend of H.I.M. Haile Selassi I.
He was elected president of the Social Credit Association of Canada in 1960, and elected to the House of Commons for Red Deer in 1962, serving through three general elections until 1972. From 1961 to 1967 he was national leader of the Social Credit Party. Thompson joined the Progressive Conservative caucus prior to the election of 1968 and sat as a P.C. member until 1972. Thompson died at Fort Langley, British Columbia 16 November 1997.Additional information:General note:Received in 1972, 1977 and 1987 from Robert N.
