Finkelman, Jacob, 1907-

Finkelman, Jacob, 1907- : Jacob Finkelman was born in 1907 at Poltava, Russia and immigrated to Hamilton, Ont., in the same year. Educated at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall, he was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 1930. He taught at the University of Toronto School of Law, 1930-1954, where he was the first professor in Canada to teach labour law. He has also taught at the University of Toronto School of Business Administation and Carleton University.

In 1937, Finkelman became the permanent arbitrator to the Ontario clothing industry. From 1943-1944, he was the Registrar to the Labour Court of Ontario. He served as chairman of the Ontario Labour Relations Board, 1944-1947 and 1953-1967. From 1967-1976, he was chairman of the Public Service Staff Relations Board.
