Peter Mitchell to Arthur Fitzroy Gault relating to his personal experiences with Sir John A. Macdonald, transcript, 1893, 35 pages.

Mitchell, P. (Peter), 1824-1899 : The Hon. Peter Mitchell, born in Newcastle, N.B., was called to the bar, 1848, and practised law in Newcastle. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, 1856-1860, a member of the Legislative Council of New Brunswick, 1860-1867, and a member of the New Brunswick Executive Council, 1859-1865, serving as president of the council, 1866-1867. He was also senator, 1867-1872, served as Minister of Marine and Fisheries, 1867-1872, and was elected to the House of Commons, 1872-1878 and 1882-1887. He was a delegate to Charlottetown, Quebec and Westminister conferences. He purchased the Montreal Herald in 1885. See: Canadian Encyclopedia, p. 1146; Encyclopedia Canadiana, vol. 7, p. 118-119.
